More than one hundred cats were recently seized from a Buckley home.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the Buckley Police Department investigated a home on the 200 block of Shamrock Ct. on Jan. 7 and found the house to be “unsafe for both humans and animals.”

“The smell from the cats could be smelt from the surrounding neighboring homes; inside the home, the smell was intolerable,” said PCSO deputy Carly Cappetto via email interview. “The smell was a primary reason why there was a complaint made.”

Pierce County Animal Control and the PSCO were called to assist with removing the cats.

“Each cat was crated, photographed, documented, and evaluated for health,” the PSCO wrote in a Facebook post about the incident. “Many of the cats are suffering from a variety of health conditions, and several were transported immediately to a center for medical treatment.”

Once an investigation is complete, the report will be forwarded to a prosecutor for review and possible charges.

The Courier-Herald reached out to the BPD for more information, but the case is under investigation and a report was not immediately available.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated when more information is made public.

ADOPTION

According to the PCSO, the cats will be distributed to local cat rescues, shelters, and humane societies after they have been evaluated.

More information will be posted about how people can adopt a cat.

Until then, the Buckley Police Department is asking for donations of small animal crates, which can be dropped off at the BPD office during business hours.
