Letter to the Editor: Elfers did well to quote Proverbs

Bravo to Mr. Rich Elfers for Dec. 31 “In Focus” column (“Proverbs: What makes good and bad government”) where he cites 13 verses from the Bible’s book of Proverbs. All are good choices.

I agree wholeheartedly with the conclusion he reached, “Solomon’s proverbs are as relevant today as they were in the 900s BCE.”

But also, allow me to point out that these Proverbs have been equally true and applicable for every year of our American republic and for every year prior thereto.

Thus, I would add this text (underlined for emphasis) to the second sentence in his writing: “From the moment of our birth, we are living in a time when the messages of Proverbs are very appropriate for us to ponder.”
