Spiketon Bridge to close May 4-6

The Spiketon Bridge outside of Buckley will close for around-the-clock work, May 4-6.
In an April 23 press release, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced the bridge will be closed to all travel for those three days, starting at 3 p.m.
Bridge inspectors recently discovered the east side of the bridge approach is failing, according to WSDOT.
“It’s a temporary structure built on ecology blocks. The blocks are moving independently of one another,” a WSDOT Communications Consultant April Leigh said. “During this repair, maintenance crews will re-secure the ecology blocks and replace the steel bridge approach with asphalt.”
A signed detour will take trail users around the closure via SR 165, SR 410, and Mundy Loss Road.
WSDOT installed the temporary bridge in 2019 after the previous bridge was closed due to settling bridge piers.
“Funding for a permanent replacement bridge continues to be deferred due to limited preservation funding,” Leigh said. “The work occurring over this three-day closure is designed to extend the life of the temporary structure.”
