Ladd was born to Al and Claire, the third of four they raised,

The only boy with three “good girls” in the home where he was raised.

He learned young how to work all day and stand up tall and square,

The kind of grit a fella needs to make his way out there.

The timber knew his steady hands from daylight until night,

A logger’s life is honest work and Ladd done that work right.

But cattle and a stretch of ground held part of Ladd’s own heart,

Some Angus grazing open range where sky and pasture part.

He loved his kids with all he had, his oldest girl, Michelle,

Then Ladd Jr. who bore his name and Beau he loved as well.

And Mike he gathered in that fold and loved him just the same.

For Ladd believed a family ain’t just the blood you share

It’s folks who ride life’s trails with you and show you that they care.

He loved the Pasayten country where the tall pines touch the sky,

With pack strings headed up the trail and mountain hawks nearby.

He’d fish the lakes and hunt the hills where quiet rivers wind,

And ride a horse through wilderness to clear a working mind.

His shop was more than boards and tools, it was a gathering place,

Where friends came by like family and laughter filled the space.

The smoker worked most every time with meat cooked good and slow,

And nobody who gathered there left hungry when they’d go.

The grandkids came like springtime rain, more joy than words could tell,

And watching them grow up and laugh always suited Ladd real well.

But time can turn a harder trail no rider wants to see,

And Alzheimer’s dimmed the road ahead where memory used to be.

Still through it all his family stood and walked that trail beside him,

With steady love and patient care no matter how it tried them.

So if you’re riding mountain trails where tall pines stand so grand,

You might just think of Ladd again, a good and steady hand.

A logger strong, a mountain man, a father proud and true,

The kind of cowboy-hearted soul the West was built upon, it’s true.
