Letter to the Editor: You can’t convince me faith or Republicans serve our country

Kristopher Galvin got an A in logic, but encourages us to lean into our faith (“Letter writer misunderstands Christianity,” published June 24)?
There is no logic in faith or belief, the very definition of each is “without proof.” No logical person has faith, you don’t use faith when you go to buy a used car, you require proof of the efficacy of their statements about the car.
You seek to find the truth about a product, any product, that you plan to purchase, you don’t just have faith in the manufacturers claims. He also claims that progressives use race, religion and economic status to divide us, there has been no party in power in our history that has been more divisive then the current administration, period.
Just a few of the things that progressives have contributed to our society: social security, which Republicans have always opposed and are constantly trying to privatize, unemployment insurance, minimum wage, which has gone unaddressed for far to long, leaving it up to each state to inject some kind of equity into it, virtually every advancement for the good of society as a whole has been made by progressive policies, while Republicans have called all of these measures, at one time or another either socialism or communism, take your pick.
In my opinion justice Thomas has been one of worst. most corrupt. justices to have ever served on the supreme court, period!
I would love to see Kristopher, in his next letter to submit a list of all of the great things the Republican party, since and including Reagan, has done for society as a whole and not just for the .01% of this country. I have a strong feeling it will be a very short list.
And Eileen Hicks, please, the rapture, where millions of live human beings will be magically taken to heaven (Repent before the rapture,” published July 1)? When this was written, heaven was thought to be just above the clouds, after all Jesus was drawn up to heaven, Muhammad rode to heaven on a donkey, so why not me, the ever faithful disciple being drawn up in a similar manner? Have you seen astronauts in space stations? Going to the moon? Rockets to Mars and other planets in our solar system? Did any of them accidently bump into heaven on the way up?
This is the kind of ridiculous reasoning that belief and faith gets you, trusting in 2000 year old myths and fables written by people who thought the earth was the center of the universe.
This is why I continue to state that faith and belief are two of the worst words in the English language. Just sayin’.
