With the increasingly dry weather and high fire danger, Enumclaw police are taking a proactive, no-tolerance stance on fireworks possession and use.
Police Chief Bruce Weigel said even though the Fourth of July has passed, fireworks continue to be a problem.
"We are hopeful that we may be able to prevent potential fires with this effort," Weigel said.
Police officers are to confiscate and cite where possible under Enumclaw Municipal Code 9.28.110. Unlawful possession is a misdemeanor. Bail is $100 with a maximum fine of $5,000 and/or a year in jail.
"The law has been there for some time," Weigel said. "The warnings are over."
