Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial Service is Sunday in Olympia

The 24th annual Washington State Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 11 in the Capitol Rotunda in Olympia.

The service includes a keynote address by Gov. Christine Gregoire, speakers from the fire service, as well as music and traditional fire service observance with bagpipes and an honor guard.

Four state firefighters will be honored. They are Chief Bob Wilson of Jefferson County Fire Districts No. 2 and 5, Assistant Chief William Dean McLean of Douglas County Fire District No. 5, Lt. Terry Bowen of Skagit County Fire District No. 11 and Roger Duke of the Vancouver Fire Department.

The memorial service is a joint effort by the Washington State Fire Protection Policy Board, Washington State Firefighters’ Association, Board of Volunteer Firefighters, Washington Fire Chiefs, Washington Fire Commissioners Association, Washington Council of Firefighters and Office of the State Fire Marshal to recognize fire fighters who lost their lives while serving their communities.
