One of Sumner’s popular summertime events won’t be returning this year.

Executive Director of the Sumner Downtown Association Shelly Schlumpf said the event is not occurring due to concerns over resources.

“That was voted on last November by the membership,” Schlumpf said.

The reasons for the cancellation are related to financial restraints and a shortage of volunteers to make the event a possibility.

“It breaks by heart that we don’t have it,” Schlumpf said.

She said there was no event anyone wanted to eliminate, but something had to go.

“I’m at the point now where there aren’t any events I want to cut because they’re all so popular,” she said.

There is no word yet on whether to continue the Mutts off Main event next year.
