FOUND PROPERTY

• A 49-year-old woman reported two females and a male behaving suspiciously inside her business along state Route 410. The caller reported they had possibly stolen items from the store and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. She said the trio left the store and the male removed items from a vehicle and then entered and left in another vehicle occupied by the two females. The male suspect was described as being in his mid-20s. A check on the vehicle which had the items removed revealed it was reported stolen. The person who reported it stolen arrived at the scene and indicated a stereo and trunk speakers were missing. There was slight damage to the ignition. The vehicle’s status was removed from the stolen category and the person who reported it stolen drove it from the scene.

FRAUD

• An officer was dispatched to take a fraud report at the Bonney Lake police station at 1:48 p.m. Feb. 13. The reported fraud victim told the officer $500 worth of items from a retail store in Texas were purchased Feb. 10 with his debit card. The reporting party still had his debit card in his possession and was alerted to the charge by his bank.

COUNTERFEIT BILLS

• An officer was sent to a business at 192nd Avenue East at 12:31 p.m. Feb. 17 regarding a forgery report. The reporting party, also the store’s manager, stated a customer paid with two counterfeit $100 bills. The manager was told they were counterfeit bills by the bank when the deposit was made. It is unknown if the customer knew the bills were not legitimate.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

• A man contacted police at approximately 12:49 a.m. Feb. 16 to report a dispute between his 18-year-old daughter and her 23-year-old boyfriend. When police arrived, the father stated the couple had a physical fight before leaving together. While police were interviewing the father, the 18-year-old female returned and was crying and appeared to be frightened. She said she and her boyfriend argued about custody of their 3-month-old baby when her boyfriend became angry. She said he grabbed her throat and pushed her head against a window. She said he threatened to kill her and drove at a high rate of speed with her in the vehicle. When he stopped at a traffic light, she fled the vehicle, flagged down another vehicle and was transported to her father’s residence. She said she feared for her life. The victim’s father told police he believes her boyfriend went to be with family in another state following the incident.

SHOPLIFTING

• A 15-year-old male was detained at approximately 12:16 p.m. for allegedly attempting to shoplift from a business along SR 410. The responding officer arrived at the business and was told by a witness the suspect was seen concealing two cans containing an energy beverage. The officer placed the suspect under arrest and asked if there was anything on the suspect’s person. The suspect stated he had “a pipe,” which the officer located and identified as a marijuana pipe. The suspect was released to a relative.

VEHICLE PROWL

• An officer responded to a report of vehicle prowl at 9:13 a.m. Feb. 18 and the victim stated someone apparently gained entry to his vehicle overnight and removed several items, damaging the vehicle in the process.

NO PROOF OF INSURANCE

• A 28-year-old male was stopped on Old Sumner-Buckley Highway for driving with no front license plate. The driver could not produce proof of insurance and a check on his status revealed his license was suspended for unpaid tickets. The driver said he was unaware his license was suspended. He was cited for driving with a suspended license and for failure to provide proof of insurance.

THEFT

• Officers responded Feb. 17 to a restaurant in the 15000 block of Main Street concerning a report of a tip jar being stolen. They took a description of the suspect and searched the area. Police saw a subject running toward Daffodil Valley Elementary School and began pursuit when dispatch advised that a witness reported seeing someone running through the Sumner High School field with a jar of money. Officers asked about the caller and dispatch confirmed the caller was out of breath and said the cell phone was going dead. Officers believe the call was intended to throw them off and continued their search of the Daffodil area. They found the subject by the school and dispatch returned the “witness” call, which went to the suspect’s cell phone. The subject admitted to making the call and taking the jar. He took police to where he had left the jar. Officers issued a notice of criminal trespass to the subject.

CITATION ISSUED

• On Feb. 17, a city planner contacted police about a stop-work order that had been issued Dec. 1 at a job site in the 3200 block of West Valley Highway. On Feb. 12, city employees met with the operator of a backhoe on that site and advised him that he was not allowed to dig into the hillside. An officer checked the site and saw the backhoe digging into the hill. The officer issued a citation for “stop work” order violation.

ASSAULT

• An individual reported he had left his business for lunch when he heard a noise from his right rear tire Feb. 12. He pulled over in the 13800 block of 38th and when he bent over, he was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. He saw two men jump into his car – one on the passenger side, one on the driver’s side – but since he had taken his keys out with him, they couldn’t start the car. They jumped out and fled. The case is under investigation.
