Sumner High is off to Friday and Saturday’s 2A state swim and dive meet at the King County Aquatic Center.

Preliminaries begin Friday at 2:30 p.m. with finals set for the same time Saturday.

There were no surprises from the Spartans who had already qualified for state on time earlier in the season, but the team scored some entries with top-four finishes Saturday at Hazen High.

SHS finished third behind Interlake and Lindbergh.

Connor Powers-Hubbard won the 200-yard freestyle, setting a meet record with his 1 minute, 51.06-second finish. He also was second in the 100 breaststroke with a state time of 1:03.18.

The Spartans’ 200 medley relay of Zane Gustafson, Trent Powers, Powers-Hubbard and Sam Rigsby kicked it up a notch for a second-place finish.

Gustafson was second in the 200 individual medley.

Powers was second in the 50 and 100 freestyle, posting state times of 22.95 and 50.84 respectively.

The Spartans’ 400 freestyle relay of Powers, Pietro Postal, Rigsby and Powers-Hubbard will also make a state appearance after a second-place finish.

Evan Quaschnik was second in diving and will take his game to KCAC.

Other consolation final places went to Postal, who was ninth in the 100 freestyle. Rigsby was 11th in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

SUBHEAD BONNEY LAKE

In 3A action, Bonney Lake High failed to qualify a swimmer or diver for the state meet.

The Panthers’ 200-yard individual medley relay team of Zach Goodsell, Zach Bordelon, Zach Pettit and Cody Rae finished 10th.

The 200 freestyle relay of Rae, Bordelon, Pettit and Nathan Scott finished 10th as did the 400 freestyle relay of Scott, Rae, Bordelon and Goodsell.

The team finished 12th.
