Sumner Family Center programs begin July 6

The program schedule at the Sumner Family Center starts Monday.

From Monday through July 10, children in first through fifth grades can learn basic Spanish words and phrases from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Life Skills classes are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 13-17 for Girl Scouts in first through fifth grade.

Also, the same week, from noon to 1:30 p.m., there will be a class to improve soccer skills; also for those in first through fifth grades.

A sewing class given by Washington State Extension is July 20-24 for youth ages 8 to 12 years old. Students will sew shorts, pillowcases and lunch bags. Students are encouraged to bring their own fabric. Cost is $5 per person or $10 for a family of two or more. Classes are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.

An arts and crafts class is July 27-31. The class is 1 to 2:30 p.m. and all materials will be provided.

The Family Center is at Daffodil Valley Elementary School, Portable 1, 1509 Valley Ave. All programs are open to Sumner School District families and to reserve a spot, call 253-891-6535.

Haake elected officer

for judges’ organization

Bonney Lake Muncipal Court Judge Douglas H. Haake was elected secretary-treasurer of District and Muncipal Court Judges Association recently.

Haake’s term runs until June 2010. As secretary-treasuser, he will be active in association business.

DMCJA is a professional association of state district and municipal judges.

Coffee with the Mayor Monday in Bonney Lake

The city of Bonney Lake will be hosting “Coffee with the Mayor” Monday at the Bonney Lake Senior Center.

Mayor Neil Johnson and one member of the council will be available for coffee and casual conversation starting at 9 a.m.

The Senior Center is at 19304 Bonney Lake Blvd. next to City Hall.
