The rain and wind did not stop residents of Sunny Lane, Eagle Creek, Rainier View, Lawson Hills, Morgan Creek, and Diamond Glen from donating food, cash, and visiting Santa at the Black Diamond Community Center.
One thousand pounds of canned food was picked up by energetic volunteers on December 5th.
The holiday parade through these neighborhoods was led by two firetrucks from King County Fire District 44.
Black Diamond Police gave Santa an escort in the Antique Fire Truck, driven by Joe Androsko. Volunteers organized by Leih Mulvihill included: representatives from Kiwanis, Pythians, Sons of Italy, Hometown Holidays volunteer Suzie Thompson, Labor Day Committee Chair Melissa Oglesbee, Frosty the Snowman (Shawn Oglesbee), and Black Diamond Community Center Director Cheryl Hanson.
Santa handed out candycanes to the children as parents and grandparents took picutres.
These neighborhoods were very generous with over one thousand pounds of food collected, along with cash and checks. If you missed the food pick-up, you can drop off food at the Community Center at 31605 Third Ave (SR 169), Monday thru Thursday, 9am-4pm.
Separate food drives were conducted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Maple Valley over the weekend, and representative of that church, Jim Voch, delivered 211 pounds of food and cash to the Center on Monday.
Additional food drives are happening at the Very Merry Christmas House, and producer of that show, Gena Laws, delivered over 800 pounds of food from previous food drives at her events.
