William Rack

Buckley resident William “Bill” Rack, 94, died Oct. 3, 2013.

He was born June 25, 1919, in Butte, Mont., to William Rack and Mariska Sklenski. They moved to Cle Elum, Wash., in 1931 to work in the coal mines. In 1935 they moved to Enumclaw where he attended his last two years of high school and starred in football. He graduated from Washington State University in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as chief pharmacist mate. He met Grace Stewart in Seattle after he was discharged and they married Sept. 21, 1947. They purchased the drug store in 1952 and worked side by side for 37 years, until they retired in 1989. He enjoyed making jewelry, wood carvings and folk art, along with golf, fishing, sculpting and swimming.

He is survived by daughter-in-law Paula Rack of Bonney Lake and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by wife Grace and a son, Peter Rack.

A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Buckley City Cemetery. A memorial is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct 11, at Community Presbyterian Church in Buckley.
