White River High School sophomore Jennifer Reisinger spearheaded a fund-raising and spirit-lifting drive called Links of Love for fellow student Melissa Sherburn, who has been diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabadomyo Sarcoma, a rare form of childhood cancer. According to Reisinger, Sherburn is splitting her time between the hospital and home these days and could use some cheering up. Reisinger and fellow students sold strips of paper for 25 cents or five for a $1 to students at the high school the week before the holiday break. Students could write a personal message on the pieces of paper, which were linked together and taken to Sherburn Dec. 17.
Good things came to the White River High wrestling squad in three Thursday – three champions and a third-place finish at the Berserker Invitational at Curtis High School in Tacoma. Hornet veterans Sean McNulty, at 160 pounds, Adam Myers, 189, and Brad Padgett, 215, earned titles at the holiday tournament.

It looks like Buckley will be getting another stop light. The Buckley City council unanimously approved an interlocal agreement last week that should bring a traffic signal to the busy intersection at Mundy-Loss Road and Highway 410.
The White River wrestling team did something a lot of other schools haven’t been able to do the last couple of year’s – beat the Tahoma Bears in a dual meet. The Hornets downed Tahoma Wednesday night in a non-league dual in Maple Valley, 41-24.

Photo: Westwood elementary school fifth grader Heidi Sawyer shows the first place plaque and certificate she won recently in a writing contest sponsored by the Enumclaw VFW. Writing is one of the areas that is stressed at Westwood.
Dolphin swimmers Pele and Laini Houk brought home two individual firsts and three relay team firsts from the All-Star regional meet in Bellevue December 15. The girls were members of the Pacific northwest squad which beat all-star teams from eastern Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
The Enumclaw High School swim team ran its unbeaten streak to four with an 89-72 win over Sumner at the Forward Thus Pool on December 18. The win upped the Hornets Seamount League mark to 2-0.

Mrs. Wilham Barquist, 1821 Porter Street, was one of the second place winners in a contest sponsored recently by General Mills, it was learned this week. Mrs. Barquist’s prize consisted of a 50-piece set of silverware, First prize in the contest was $15,000.
Ivar Skjelkvale, prominent Enumclaw horseman, was dumfounded recently when he was the guest of honor at a surprise party at the Virgil Studebaker home. Skjelkvale, who has been instructing a group of young riders at the Studebaker arena was presented with a beautiful gold and silver buckle in appreciation of his many hours of service to the group.

To Mr. and Mrs. Owen Merritt went the honor of winning the Kiwanis silver trophy for the most artistic outdoor Christmas decoration. Mr. and Mrs. Jens Holm won the five dollar second prize, and Mr. and Mrs. Petrus nelson won three dollars, third prize.
John Pohlot was re-elected president of the Krain Slavic Farmers and Citizens Club to lead the organization during the 1935 year. Other officers elected were Frank Laush, Mary Balint, Joe Kobe, Frank Richter, Frank Rotar and Mable Cinkovich.
About twenty-five people gathered at the home of Mrs. Adolph Strand in Kent on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the birthdays of Mrs. Stand and Milton Allen of Enumclaw. the affair was in the form of a Watch Party and refreshments were served late in the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Bellack and daughter Shirley, Miss Florence Seibert, Miss Mary Osborn, all of Krain, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Osborn on New Year’s Eve.
