City and Cascadia settle some sewer questions

By Dennis Box-The Courier-Herald

The city of Bonney Lake has moved closer to becoming the sewer service provider for the south Plateau region, including Cascadia.

After an extended executive session Aug. 14, City Council members passed a motion that settled a disagreement between Cascadia and the city.

Cascadia is planning a 6,500 home community in the south Plateau. The northern tip of the subdivision will begin along 198th Avenue East and about 120th Street East and it will stretch south to the Carbon River.

Mayor Neil Johnson and Chuck Lappenbusch, Cascadia's senior vice president, signed the agreement document.

The highlights of the document included a study of &#8220the feasibility and possible timing of annexation of Cascadia into Bonney Lake.”

Also the document stated Bonney Lake will offer to provide sewer service to Cascadia as soon as the law allows and both parties will work to &#8220determine a master Plan for the South Plateau sewer service area and to determine who the preferred sewer service provider(s) should be for the South Plateau.”

The two will make a recommendation who is to be the sewer service provider by Dec. 31, 2008, and the parties will present a signed agreement to the Pierce County Hearing Examiner adding Bonney Lake to the group of potential sewer service providers.

Johnson described the agreement as a &#8220move in the right direction and it keeps everyone talking. I'm looking for Pierce County to show leadership in the south Plateau area.”

Lappenbusch said &#8220we appreciate the opportunity to work with Bonney Lake for a win-win solution that this agreement represents.”

The agreement keeps the development on track for a spring grand opening for the first set of homes.

Phase one of the development is slated for about 1,700 homes, with about 500 planned for the initial stage.
