Leg. District 5 Rep. Hunt appointed to state Senate

And Issaquah Council member Zach Hall takes her spot in House.

Editor’s note: The following is a press release from the 5th Legislative District Democrats.

The King County Council appointed Victoria Hunt to fill the state Senate seat vacated by the late Sen. Bill Ramos last Tuesday, June 3.

Hunt was elected last year to the state House for the 5th District, serving as Vice Chair for the Energy and Environment Committee and sitting on the Local Government and Transportation committees. She also works as the chief data officer for Crosswalk Labs.

Because of the vacancy created by her appointment, Council also interviewed candidates for her seat and from them chose Zach Hall to take over Hunt’s 5th District House seat.

Hall was elected to a second term on the Issaquah City Council in 2023, where he has led efforts to expand funding for affordable housing, crisis response, homelessness outreach, climate action, and transportation infrastructure.

Hunt and Hall were both sworn into office during the meeting and step into their new roles immediately. During their acceptance speeches, both stated they were honored to be selected to follow in the footsteps of their friend, Bill, and will strive to honor his legacy.

The King County Council Meeting was serious and somber as many reflected on the circumstances of these appointments, namely Ramos’ unexpected passing. The sadness was shared by members of the 5th Dems who participated along with the Council itself, out of respect for their colleague, Councilmember Sarah Perry, who is Ramos’ widow.

Senator Victoria Hunt and Representative Zach Hall join Representative Lisa Callan to make up the 5th District delegation, all of whom are Democrats.
