After a wildly successful two-year stint at a neighboring school to the north, Julie Anderson has returned to the world of Enumclaw High hoops.
She was hired in the spring to take the reins of the Hornet girls basketball team. Anderson assumes the program’s top job, previously held by Danny Graham who led the program for four seasons.
Anderson is certainly no stranger to Enumclaw High’s Chuck Smith Gymnasium. After serving as an assistant coach at Seattle University she took time to focus on her young family. With kids getting older she returned to the bench, eventually serving the better part of a decade as an EHS assistant.
Wanting to lead a program of her own, a great opportunity presented itself at Tahoma High in Maple Valley. The Bears had capped the 2022-23 season by placing third at the Class 4A state championships. And, with that, the coach decided to step down.
Anderson was hired and has done nothing by polish the Tahoma hoop reputation. During her two seasons at the helm her Lady Bears went undefeated in North Puget Sound League 4A play and posted an overall, two-season record of 41-11. During the most recent hoop campaign, which saw Tahoma make a return trip to the state tournament, she was accorded NPSL 4A Coach of the Year honors.
Anderson said followers of Hornet basketball will see a program that works to excel at rebounding and puts a tough “man” defense on the floor.
The Anderson clan has left quite a mark on Enumclaw High athletics – and beyond. The proud mom points to son Kaden, who left EHS as the top career scorer in Hornet boys basketball history and then set school records at Point Loma College in California before embarking on a professional career in Europe.
Daughter Sawyer took her soccer talents to Pacific Lutheran University and daughter Saydee played soccer at Northwest University.
