Plateau local Steinman now heading WRHS volleyball

Will she help the Hornets toward another no-league-loss season?

Haley Steinman provides years of coaching experience as she takes control of the White River High volleyball program.

From her latest coaching stint – a four-year tenure leading the Bonney Lake High team – Steinman brings a philosophy that (in her words) “centers around empowering the players to reach their full potential both on and off the court.”

At Bonney Lake, Steinman coached the varsity and was charged with overseeing both the junior varsity and C squads as well. Prior to her time with the Panthers (2021-2024) she spent two seasons as head coach for Foothills Select Volleyball, first with a U-13 team then with a U-14 group.

Responding to a Courier-Herald query, Steinman acknowledged she is excited to be taking over the Hornet program. “This group they have is extremely talented and I look forward to seeing what success we will have this year on the court.

“I also look forward to working alongside the coaching staff to continue building a strong and successful volleyball program here at White River.”

The White River team has been quite a force lately, making state tournament appearances the past two seasons. Last year’s squad ran to a perfect 16-0 record in North Puget Sound League 3A play.

Steinman grew up near the Plateau, attending Sumner High School while serving the Spartan squad as a three-year starter and two-time team captain. During her prep years she also played high-level club volleyball, helping her Puget Sound Volleyball Academy capture a junior national championship.

Coming out of high school Steinman entertained offers to play for Division 3 and NAIA schools but chose instead to attend Washington State University. In Pullman she was a member of the club team, traveling to play against Pac-12 competition.

Steinman takes over a program that, while successful on the court, has seen turnover in the coaching ranks. She will be the fourth head coach in seven seasons following Stephanie Pond (2023 and 2024), Gressa Dolan (2021 and 2022) and Caitlyn Carr (2019 and 2020).
