Wayne Oliver Matley
October 24, 1925- April 23, 2026
Wayne Oliver Matley passed away on April 23, 2026, at age 100, after a short illness in Fall City, WA. He was born October 24, 1925, and raised in Reno, Nevada, and spent his summers working at the Matley Ranch in Reno. Wayne met and married his first wife, Phyllis Coughlin in Reno, Nevada. They moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where Wayne became a fire fighter for the city of Berkeley CA.
In 1967 he married his second wife, Barbara Vierra Shook. After retiring from the fire department, they moved to Enumclaw, WA. in 1981, where they lived for over 40 years. In retirement Wayne continued the Piano Tuning Business he started in California as he was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild and a talented self-taught piano player himself. He did this well into his 90’s before finally fully retiring. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and more than anything else, he and Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining guests and preparing wonderful meals.
In 2023 Wayne and Barbara moved to Fall City to live with their daughter Cindys family. His wife Barbara passed away September 11, 2023, and Wayne continued living in Fall City where he often expressed how blessed he was to be living in such a dynamic and loving household surrounded by the love and laughter of Cindys family.
Wayne is survived by eight children, Pamela Sheldon, Gregory Matley, Kathleen Matley, Jerry Shook, Carolyn Shook, Maureen Furman, Theodore Matley, and Cynthia Conlon,17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Gordon Matley of Stockton, CA.
Predeceased family includes Phyllis Coughlin Matley, Barbara Vierra Matley, brothers Lauren Matley and Russell Matley, and two grandchildren, Mark Silva and Melanie Matley.
A Catholic mass will be held on June 4,11:00 am, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw WA, followed by a reception in the church hall, and a private interment at Holy Name Cemetery at Krain.
