Enumclaw local collecting donations for Spokane wildfire victims

A local Enumclaw businessman is collecting donations for victims of the Spokane wildfires.

Casey James, who runs Diamond J Junk Removal in town, said he has connections to people in Eastern Washington that have been affected by the wildfires and wanted to help.

“I literally just started thinking about this last night,” he said in a quick interview outside the Enumclaw QFC, where he was stationed for a couple of hours while reaching out on Facebook to gather donations. “I’ve seen a couple other people that were doing donations and charity events… so I’m like, ‘You know what? I need to do this.’”

James said that he’s willing to come collect donations around town until Monday, Aug. 10, which is when he’ll be driving to Spokane to drop donations off at Access Church Spokane.

There are three wildfires in the Spokane area at this time: the Autumn Lane Fire (5,900 acres have been burnt), the Old Trails Fire (3,600 acres) and the Fairview Fire (1,000 acres). All are only partially contained,. More than 65,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, and hundreds of buildings have been burned down, according to reports.

James said he’s collecting bottled water and Gatorade, granola and protein bars, baby supplies like diapers and wipes, feminine hygiene products, phone chargers and charging blocks, and more.

“I’ve got friends and family that are reaching out all over the Puget Sound that are collecting donations for me,” he said. “I don’t have anything yet, but… I know it’s going to happen.”
