Mount Rainier closes Sunrise, White River roads to SR 410 due to fire| UPDATE

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article misreported that SR 410 is closed. The Sunrise and White River roads to SR 410 are closed; the highway remains open at this time. The article has been updated.
5:45 p.m.: The Greenwater /Crystal Mountain Fire Department reported via Facebook that the Sunrise Visitors Center and the White River Campground in the Park have been evacuated.
“Type 3 team and aerial resources have been ordered, including two air tankers. As I am listening to the radio, it sounds like a crew of smokejumpers is being ordered as well. Access to the fire will be a challenge,” Chief Paul Sowers posted. “The best access would be through the Lake Eleanor trail, but the road to that trailhead is washed out.”
He added there is no immediate danger to Greenwater or Crystal Mountain at this time.
“This is an active fire with significant growth potential,” he continued. “Please avoid the area, both from the Park side and from the north side.”
3:41 p.m.: The city of Enumclaw said it received communication from Mount Rainier National Park about the fire.
“We are mustering Sunrise staff at the White River Administration area now. To be clear, the White River Administrative area is not closing currently,” the city posted on its Facebook around 3:40 p.m. “… . Our immediate priorities are clear: protect lives, provide for the safety of firefighters and the public, and maintain access and egress options for anyone who may be in the vicinity of Grand Park.”
The city is working with the park to host a response team within city limits.
3:25 p.m.: Mount Rainier National Park has closed the Sunrise and White River roads to SR 410 due to the Grand Park 2 Fire burning in the northeast area of the park.
The park announced the temporary closure around 3 p.m. today, Aug. 7.
According to Whatcom County Weather, the Grand Park 2 Fire was estimated as having burned 200 acres around 2 p.m.; it’s located on the west side of the highway near the Mt. Fremont Fire Lookout.
