Clothing banks could use donations as start of school draws near | Letter

Both the Donald Loomis Memorial Clothing Bank and the Enumclaw Clothing Bank will be opening for “back to school” shopping in a few weeks.

Both the Donald Loomis Memorial Clothing Bank and the Enumclaw Clothing Bank will be opening for “back to school” shopping in a few weeks. I am the director of both although I have a managing director at the Enumclaw location. Her name is Diane Harston.

Both banks work about the same. We give away free clothes for families with a focus on school-age children. The special back-to-school days are by appointment only and only for the school-age children. After school starts the banks will be back to their regular schedules with no appointment necessary. We give away new socks and underwear at both locations and the Buckley location also gives away school supplies.

Both banks are located at school-owned properties and both the White River and Enumclaw districts provide the space as a community service.

The Donald Loomis Memorial Clothing bank will open for “back to school” shopping on Aug. 23, 24 and 27. You must have an appointment for these special back-to-school days. Sponsored by the Buckley Kiwanis, the clothing bank is glad to open for its 19th school year. If you have clean, usable clothing items to donate we will have a special collection day on Aug. 21st from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  After school starts the regular hours are  every Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. Closed on all school closures. Call 360-829-6605 for an appointment. You must live within the White River or Carbonado school districts to use this resource. We are located behind Glacier Middle School with the entrance around back. Take the bus loop around back by the baseball fields.

The Enumclaw Clothing Bank has helped area families for 10 years. Come in and see the “new look.” Lots of new racks and more organized than ever.  We will be having a collection day on Aug. 21 from 3 to 8 p.m. Anyone having nice, clean, usable clothing, shoes and backpacks to donate, is welcome to bring your donations this date. You may also donate during any of our open dates throughout the year. The Enumclaw Clothing Bank is open to families who live within the Enumclaw School District. We are located in the old JJ. Smith School building in the old library, on Fell Street.  Please call for an appointment for the back-to-school shopping (students only). Appointments offered on Aug. 22, 23 and 25. Call 360-802-7322 and leave a message and someone will get back with you to set an appointment. After school starts we will go back to our regular schedule which is every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed on all school closures.
