Sumner’s girls basketball team fared better than their male counterparts Tuesday night, defeating the Steilacoom Sentinels 56-19.
The Sumner High School boys basketball team played Steilacoom Tuesday night on the Sentinels’ court. The Spartans lost 54-46.
The two teams faced off in a crosstown rivalry dual meet hosted at Bonney Lake High School.
National retailers hire tens of thousands of temporary workers after Halloween to keep up with increased demand leading into the holiday shopping season. More than 500,000 people nationwide were hired to winter seasonal jobs in 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Nationwide, the gift-giving holiday season brings an uptick in package and mail thefts due to increased volume of mail order deliveries. The boy’s basketball team defeated Orting 66-41, also at home.
Santa Claus arrived Saturday in Sumner for the city’s annual Santa Parade to help kick off the holiday season along with Sumner’s Chief For a Day Nikki Kohn. The parade featured cars, kids, dancers, ponies, and the Sumner High School marching band.
The community garden was founded in 2008 to allow community members to lease plots of land, growing produce for themselves and for donation to the Sumner food bank. To date, it has been funded by a combination of grants, city funds and a small membership fee.
The accident began with a head-on collision, which led to three subsequent rear-endings.
The city council voted unanimously Nov. 19 to approve an ordinance prohibiting the zoning of the three types of marijuana suppliers within city limits. The ordinance also prohibits zoning of collective gardens, a supplier to medical marijuana patients.

The All-League team is an honorary assignment signifying the league’s “dream team” of players, based on performance stats. Players who make the cut are named to a first team, second team, or honorable mention team.
