The Panthers girls golf team hit low, then high this week, losing to Enumclaw High School 131-107 and winning against Peninsula High School 135-109.
The boys team lost both matches, 91-40 against Enumclaw and 88-53 against Peninsula.
It was another good week for the Sumner High boys golf team, though not without its drawbacks: the Spartans broke a season-long winning streak in its three-way Thursday match against Franklin Pierce and Washington High School at Brookdale in Tacoma.
Bonney Lake High’s girls golf team faced Decatur Sept. 20 and came up short — five strokes short. The Panthers lost to the Gators 156-137, with a stroke count of 291-296.
The AYP report is the state’s report card to measure school achievement, as dictated by the 2002 federal No Child Left Behind Act. The report measured results taken from the state’s standardized tests, including the Measurements of Student Progress for grades 3-8, the High School Proficiency Exam, and the End-of-Course Assessments, which replaced the mathematics portion of HSPE.
This is the second entry in an interview series with the candidates for Sumner’s city council. Curt Brown is the incumbent candidate for Position No. 6.
Members of Sumner High School’s drumline were present to sis-boom-bah support for October’s Sunset Festival of Bands. The Sunset Festival will take place Oct. 29, marking the band fundraiser’s third year.
The new members named were Steve Allwine, Arla Holzschuh, Melony Kirkish, Dale Loseth and Emily Terrell.
The Spartan’s girls golf team lost to Fife Tuesday, 49-10.
The Panther boy lost to Decatur Tuesday, 68-46.

Despite some solid times, the Sumner Spartans succumbed to Enumclaw and Fife in its away meets Sept. 13 and Thursday. They finished 101-79 against Enumclaw and 93-77 against Fife.
Bonney Lake’s girls had Auburn Mountainview teed off last week, winning their home match against Auburn Mountainview 120-96.
