At 28 years old, Melony Kirkish is the youngest candidate vying for a seat on Sumner’s city council, though she’s not lacking in experience or ambition. She holds two bachelor’s degrees and serves on the city’s Design Commission. Now she wants to affect positive change for the city as a legislator.

Lake Tapps author Lysne Nolte released her young adult novella “Big Sister Babysitter” through a self-publication service in July. Now she is working on three more entries to the series and is set to be featured at two international book fairs: the Frankfurt Book Fair in October and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in March. Nolte has had to self promote her work every step of the way.

A swath of Bonney Lake was plunged into darkness today after an electrical transformer on Bonney Lake Boulevard and next to city hall exploded. Sparks from the explosion started a fire on the ground below.
Sumner High School’s boys golf team has retained all of its players this year, losing none to graduation.
That’s good news, because six of them were league titleists in the 2010 season. Seniors Brandon Barlow and Austin Spanier placed in the top 20 in state competition. Juniors Kai Taylor and Tom Murphy also made it to the state tournament, and Juniors Carson Dunham and Joe Bethards made districts.
