Due to the inclement weather that has forced many high school baseball games to be rescheduled, White River High hadn’t seen action from March 19 until Monday when the team traveled to Steilacoom High for their South Puget Sound League 2A opener.
Due to the nine-day lapse between contests, the last thing on Hornet lefty Trevor Lubking’s mind was pitching a seven-inning no-hitter against the Sentinels. That was exactly what happened though, as White River blanked Steilacoom 9-0 behind a near-perfect game by the White River ace.
The red-hot 4-1 White River baseball squad had been slated to begin South Puget Sound League 2A play Thursday by hosting Clover Park.
The White River High fastpitch squad began its season playing so well in early March that the only conceivable opponent that could cool it off, did.
After suffering its second loss of the season, a 10-4 setback to Yelm at the Boise Creek Sixplex March 21, Enumclaw High’s fastpitch squad rallied to capture a hard-fought 5-3 road win in its South Puget Sound League 3A opener at Lakes March 23.
The Kent Valley Select U-18 hockey team, which includes a handful of skaters from the Plateau area, recently edged Spokane 2-1 to claim the U-18 state championship and earn a trip to Cleveland for the U-18 Nationals.
In the tandem of contests it managed to squeeze in between raindrops, White River’s fastpitch squad posted a 16-1 thumping of Orting and a 15-8 victory over Enumclaw.
After pulverizing Bethel 14-2 in its March 11 opener, White River High locked down Orting 8-1, annihilated Rainier Christian 12-1 and pounded Lakes 12-4. The Hornets got nipped by Rogers 5-4 Saturday.
The Enumclaw High baseball squad posted two conquests, elevating its overall mark to 3-0 in nonleague play.
In nonleague action, the inexperienced Enumclaw High fastpitch crew won two of three encounters.
Plateau baseball squads from White River and Enumclaw took advantage of a rare calm and playable evening Friday, both Hornet contingents pounding out victories against a tandem of Class 4A opponents.

Enumclaw High baseball coach Eric Fiedler has the majority of last year’s squad – which finished third in last year’s Class 3A state tournament – back as seniors for the coming 2011 campaign.
White River High’s fastpitch coach Joe Sprouse has high expectations.
“Barring any unforeseen disastrous circumstances, this year’s team is definitely talented enough to make it to the subdistricts at the end of the regular season,” he said.
