Chaos and anger has defined the last seven months of Black Diamond City Council meetings, but the outrage residents expressed flared hotter than ever on July 21 as a century-long tradition looked to be put on the chopping block: the city’s three-day Labor Day Festival.
Allan Yorke Park is about to get a major makeover. During the July 19 council workshop, the Bonney Lake City Council listened to a presentation by Bruce Dees & Associates about the park’s new master plan, which details various improvements and overhauls the Bonney Lake community said it wanted.
Beautify Bonney Lake is looking for three board members to help put together the annual city-wide clean up event in 2017. The group is shrinking down to seven board members and is hoping to boost itself back up to 10 for next year’s event, said chairman Tom Watson.

Due to a sudden shortage in available parking spaces, the Bonney Lake Food Bank is again considering moving somewhere else in town. On July 7, the city took control of half of the gravel lot behind the food bank, which has been used for staging clients for the food bank and vehicle storage for East Pierce Fire and Rescue, the Bonney Lake Police Department and the city.
Black Diamond residents will celebrate the city’s 12th annual Miners Day festival on Saturday, July 16.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3070 is reaching out to the Sumner and Bonney Lake communities for something special and often overlooked: memories. The VFW post and the Sumner Historical Society are working in tandem to collect war memorabilia, whether it be photos, medals, uniforms or even weapons, to display them at the VFW Hall on Willow Street.

Last week, the Cannabis Patient Protection Act came into full effect, changing how the state regulates medical marijuana. Also, a WWII vet was once again able to fly in a B-17 bomber after a boy scout troop raised enough funds.
