The definition of marriage is changing | Our Corner

I consider myself extremely lucky to have spent most of my childhood in an amazingly accepting and loving church environment. Even so, many months and countless hours were spent in committee meetings and bending over the church charter, which expressly denied performing same-sex marriages. Eventually, the congregation decided the charter did not accurately reflect God’s love, and my community joined the ever-increasing number of churches that believe the idea of marriage in the church is not as limited as we used to think.

Think before you order your food | Our Corner

During that fateful summer after graduating college, before locking down my career path, I found myself strapped for cash as friends more fortunate than I wanted to go out and celebrate their newfound status in society. So to keep up with the Joneses, I did what any reasonable post-college graduate would do. I went back to my pre-college food vending job.

Lock up your medicine with free lock boxes

The United States is in the midst of an epidemic, the Center for Disease Control has said, although if you look around you, no one is getting sick. The cause is prescription medication overdose, and the Bonney Lake Police Department, the Sumner Police Department and East Pierce Fire and Rescue are working to mitigate prescription overdoes in their communities.

East Pierce EMS sees increase in calls, raises transport fees

When residents of East Pierce Fire and Rescue think of their local fire department, they may think of large red trucks, long yellow hoses and athletic men and women wearing full face masks and oxygen tanks while fighting a house fire. In truth, this is only a small part of East Pierce. Of all the calls made to the fire district in 2014, 74 percent of them requested not firefighters, but the district’s emergency medical services.

The Grand Union Flag was an unofficial flag of the original 13 colonies before the Continental Congress adopted the stars and stripes in 1777.

The history of Old Glory

It was a turning point in the war. George Washington had just crossed the Delaware River, capturing the town of Trenton from British-allied German forces and defending the town against a counterattack led by the Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis in the dawning days of 1777. It was that summer when the Continental Congress adopted the official stars and stripes of America.
