The aroma of cured and smoked meats hits customers as they walk in the door.

Owner Yevgeniy Yorosh said he’s always curing and smoking something.

Yorosh, who hails from the Ukraine, opened the business in early November after nearly six months of renovation. Plateau residents will find it in a familiar location, 31205 3rd Ave., the site occupied by Frank’s Meat Market for decades. It may be hard to find, hidden behind an auto wrecking yard, but Yorosh says it’s worth the hunt.

He offers fresh and smoked meats, as well as hams, ribs, pork loins, bacon and beef steaks. He learned the trade from his Ukrainian family and many of the recipes are his.

“American people like the hams and kielbasa,” Yorosh said. “Europeans like the krajana and krakivska.”

The other part of European Quality Meats is Wild Gaming Market, which represents the other service Yorosh provides, cutting, wrapping and processing game.

While still getting his meat shop up and running, Yorosh has plans for the future. He’d like to add a European grocery area to the shop that would carry foods, candies and cookies.

He’s not going it alone, getting help from his two daughters and a son.

European Quality Meats is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The phone number is 360-886-0170.
