The endless ocean at Grayland Beach State Park

We end out four-part camping series at the beach.

The slippery and scaled denizens of Reptile Isle paid a visit to Buckley on Thursday, Aug. 4, delighting a crowd of nearly 100 kids and adults. The traveling animal show, hosted last week in Buckley through the city’s Youth Activity Center, introduces young people to exotic animals and the principles of nature conservation. On display in Buckley were a gecko, a giant Galapagos tortoise, a Komodo Dragon and Chiquita, the albino Burmese python, among other animals. Photos by Alex Bruell

Among the highlights of a trip to Cape Disappointment State Park is a stop at the North Head Lighthouse. The original lighthouse, knows as the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, went out of service in 1856, but ships continued to run aground at the mouth of the Columbia River, prompting the North Head Lighthouse to be built.
