Letter to the Editor: Editor misses the mark in ‘No Kings’ report

Indivisible member Margaret Sikorski says the Courier-Herald mischaracterized Trump supporters at the rally in a good light.

In the article, “Enumclaw turns out for ‘No Kings’ demonstration,” (published Oct. 22), Editor Ray Miller-Still wrote, “ While hundreds were there, a couple dozen energetic supporters of the president also attended.”

That adjective “energetic” was deceiving.

My experience was they were antagonistic. They arrived at the corners of Griffin and Porter by 11 a.m with loud speakers. As many people gathered the mood and talk became uglier on the corners: “Fuck, fuck, fuck” was blasted into the face of a woman.

They claimed it was free speech. Hmmm.

As Miller-Still mentioned a car with Trump supporters stopped in the intersection slowing traffic several times. Our police department was not nearby avoiding any escalation but would hopefully step in if needed.

Seven million Americans in cities and towns across this country protested peacefully responding to INDIVISIBLE – no shots were fired.

We are so proud that 600-700 locals peacefully and safely protested. Trump supporters were shocked that Indivisible people were kind and concerned about them. Emotions did get in the way at times.

Miller-Still mentioned Stephens and Allen with opposite views but learned they had so much in common. Neither side are haters that Mr. Trump says we are. We all love this country and it’s hard to watch the deep division of our countrymen. It affects families including children.

We have to remember America is not a business, it is a Republic — form of government in which the state is ruled by representatives of the citizen body.

Maybe lessons learned by all will bring us closer together next time we meet. Both sides love Springsteen music!

Indivisible people are on the streets using first amendment right to protest the implementation of Project 2025. When Mr. Trump leaves office at age 83 his loyalists will continue their agenda – authoritarianism.

Jane Goodal said, “Hope isn’t wishful thinking.” We still have the right to vote — your vote makes a difference.
