Letter to the Editor: Reform the school board with these candidates

Reader Robin Medearis urges you to vote Stouffer or Pettit

We here in Enumclaw are having a primary Aug. 1 and upcoming election in November where we can make a significant and necessary change in our School Board.

As the recent bond failure at an overwhelming 75% “no” vote indicates, we need School Board members who understand a few significant things:

No. 1: The Board’s fiscal responsibility must focus on needs vs wants. And, with a $76 million budget they must look at how those funds are allocated before coming to the community with outrageous requests for money.

No. 2: Parents’ Constitutional Rights as the primary stakeholders in their children’s lives and education must be reinstated. This is a non-negotiable must have.

No. 3: The School Board must focus on our community’s future generations’ education.

Currently, our kids are failing; only 40% meet math standards, less than 50% meet science standards and over 30% do not attend school regularly.

Fellow citizens, please vote! And, vote out incumbent Lori in the Aug. 1 primary. Either Tonya or Ben will make wonderful Board members.
