I’m sorry Rich Elfers, but to state that science and fundamentalism can peacefully coexist, to me is incomprehensible. (“Can science and Christian fundamentalism intertwine? Absolutely,” published July 31.)
Science is based on provable evidence and faith in any holy book, by definition is belief with absolutely no proof whatsoever. There is no evidence that any occurrences in any holy texts ever happened, so how one could compare them in any meaningful way, in my opinion is ludicrous.
And even if any of them were found to be true, who would want to spend eternity with a vain, jealous and vengeful god who would kill his entire flawed creations for not being faithful enough to his will? I, for one, would rather take my chances with the devil, who actually killed very few of his creations in comparison.
To accept science because of its provability and then state that the two can reconcile is beyond comprehension. Just sayin’.
