Letter to the Editor: SCOTUS is taking us back in time

Reader Larry Benson says the Supreme Court is reversing long-held rights.

There has been speculation for a very long time about the possibility of a time machine and the chance to travel back in time and change history, but who would have thought that a time machine could simply be people?

Well, we know now that, not only is it a possibility but it is fast becoming a reality.

If you’re wondering what I’m referring to, it’s the Supreme Court. Yes, the supreme court is taking our country back in time, taking away women’s rights that have been established for fifty years; fifty years of affirmative action, gone; and now anti-discrimination laws, unconstitutional.

The speed with which this court is sending our country back to the past is incredible. Still think “The Handmaid’s Tale” is just a work of fiction? We are headed there at a pace unimaginable just a short time ago.

How big a step will it be from taking LGBTQ rights to services provided to the general public to the very obvious next step of, “We don’t serve ‘your kind’ here.”

I still don’t understand why the three appointees of Trump can even serve on the highest court in the land when they perjured themselves in their confirmation hearings and should be in jail instead of changing our history at a dizzying pace.

They danced around the question of Roe v. Wade and the possibility of overturning it, and referred to it as reaffirmed precedent and that they were unlikely to address it. Well, I don’t care how you phrase it, if you put a dress on a pig, it’s still a pig. Just sayin’.
