Reader offers comments of Sexton column

One can only snort about comments by Brenda Sexton – “Flap over speech…mind boggling” (Courier-Herald, Sept. 16).

Leaving aside that a lot of kids did not hear it because they, well, they were not in school yet, (doh!) or the oh so concerned teachers were on strike. Again! Or the need for it, other than to give The One more TV face time to build his cult. The majority of objections were not about the content of the speech; it was what the left-wing academics would do with it afterwards. This concern was most strongly made after the “suggestions” for what the kids would do after the speech was leaked. Under cover of darkness the “suggestions” for kids, like write a letter to dear leader and pledge allegiance, was dropped from the after-speech curriculum.

Keep in mind that on Oct 1, 1991, President H.W. Bush gave essentially the same speech to the nation’s school kids from Alice Deal Junior High in Washington, D.C. The screaming from the Democrats in power could be heard around the world. The demands for congressional investigations, demands for (and getting) investigation by the General Accounting Office with an eye to criminal charges for “misuse of federal funds” and the breathless denouncements from the NEA, who “…cannot endorse a president who spends $26,000 of taxpayers’ money on a staged media event at Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington, D.C.”

And who could forget the summoning of Bush administration officials to Capital Hill so the Marxist clowns in Congress could grill them in front of congressional committees of inquiry? Costing how much more than $26,000?

Ah, what a difference, just who has the hand on the levers of power makes for (very) selective outrage.

God save the republic.
