The Bible shouldn’t be used out of context

Rich Elfers should look at the Bible in a different light.

Dear Mr. Elfers: In your letter to Christian supporters of President Trump (“A letter to Christian supporters of Donald J. Trump,” published Sept. 23), you slipped into that centuries-old trap of deceit that many have tried to use.

Using scripture taken out of context to make a point or make someone look bad is as old as the Bible itself. Please don’t think you are the first one to use this outdated, over-used method.

Christian people all have values, as do unbelievers. Our values come from preaching, teaching, Bible study, and fellowship with other like-minded people.

All believers have these values, but try to avoid influence from unbelievers. I can not speak for all of them, but we are advised to reject secular ideas with no Biblical values.

As for me, I think you should be ashamed for writing such drivel. The Bible was never intended to be used for such purposes. I would suggest that you read it with a different attitude and purpose. Read it believing it will help and bless you and speak the truth to your spirit. Expect new life and light. Just hold it in your hands and you will be amazed!
