A couple of restaurants have submitted plans to the city of Bonney Lake that would result in more jobs and added revenue.

Recently, Sonic Drive-In submitted its plans to build a store in Bonney Lake, said Mayor Neil Johnson at the April 21 Bonney Lake City Council workshop.

According to Community Development Director John Vodopich, Sonic will construct a store along state Route 410 near Lowe’s. It is slated to open late summer or early fall.

There are currently five Sonic restaurants in the state – Spokane, Kennewick, Richland, Wenatchee and recently Puyallup, which opened Monday.

The Sonic corporation is headquartered in Oklahoma City and is the largest chain of drive-in restaurants in the United States. There are more than 3,400 restaurants in 34 states. They also have a store in the Portland, Ore., and Boise, Idaho, metro areas.

Johnson said Hopjacks, another restaurant, completed its permits and submitted their plans in record time.

Johnson said Hopjacks owners stated the city reviewed their building permit faster than any of the cities they’ve worked with.

Vodopich said Sonic owners submitted their permit package April 21 and it is being reviewed for comments. He added the city sent out a letter to Hopjacks owners March 27.

Hopjacks will be located next to Mr. Jalapenos in the 21100 block of state Route 410, Vodopich said.

According to Mark Eggen of Rock Solid Restaurants, which is the parent company, Hopjacks will focus on burgers, sandwiches and salads between $8 to $12.

Eggen said the restaurant is slated to open Aug. 1 based on its construction schedule

Vodopich said Red Robin is looking at a site in front of Target. They will visit the site in early May.
