Advertisement for bids to widen state Route 410 has been delayed until Nov. 2, according to the city of Bonney Lake.

Public Works Director Dan Grigsby said the advertisement has been delayed about two months, but a completion date in 2010 remains the same.

Originally, the advertisement was scheduled for February 2009, but environmental issues delayed it to Aug. 24.

“Depending on weather, not much construction may occur until the spring of 2010,” Grigsby said. “However, the utility companies will probably be out doing their relocation work during 2009.”

Grigsby said the original project cost was estimated at $20 million including design, right of way acquisition, environmental protection and construction.

The project has been under planning and design since 2005.

The 1.49‑mile project will add one lane in each direction of SR 410 with a raised median separating the eastbound and westbound traffic between 214th and 234th avenues.

The existing split intersection of 233rd Avenue East and 234th Avenue East will be realigned, creating a four-leg “signalized” intersection.

Street lights will be provided continuously from 214th to 234th.

Costs of the street lights will be shared by the state’s Department of Transportation and Bonney Lake.

“We expect Bonney Lake’s share of the costs to be $300,000 to $350,000,” Grigsby said. “Most of the costs will be funded by the state.”

According to Grigsby, curbs and gutters will be installed on both sides of the highway and around the landscaped median.

New driveway entrances will be made for each property owner.

The city and DOT has jointly selected trees and ground cover for the landscaped median and Pierce Transit will install bus shelters at each intersection.

Grigsby said where no turn lanes are needed, a landscaped median will be provided. DOT will fund the landscraping and irrigation system.

He said three new stormwater ponds will be built that will reduce flooding problems that have occurred in Eastown in the past.

As development of adjacent properties occurs, sidewalks will be added and utility lines will be placed underground, Grisby added.
