Downtown Enumclaw’s premier corner is hopping again, now that Café Panini has opened for business at the junction of Cole Street and Griffin Avenue. The former home of Sunrise Pharmacy and Hallmark has been sitting vacant while principle restaurant owners Phil and Tammy Porter remodeled the interior to meet their needs. Café Panini opened its doors on April 1, 2005, in its new location.

Reminiscent of the 1950s restaurant Arnold’s from the hit television show Happy Days, the new owners of The Kitchen at 1521 Cole St., have big ideas of making their establishment a local youth hangout and family favorite. “I grew up watching Happy Days and love the feeling of an old fashioned diner like Arnie’s,” co-owner Amy Noy said. “It’s fun and has a hometown, friendly feel and that’s what we’re all about.” With frequent laughter, Noy and Sheri Lundberg bring decades of restaurant experience to their first ownership opportunity and plan to make the most of it.

It will be a surprising and well earned comeback for the fire truck which left active service in 1942 – a truck that for the last three years has been in hundreds of pieces stored in several Enumclaw locations.

Enumclaw was buzzing due to a would-be fire Saturday evening when an iron at the Enumclaw cleaners establishment burned a hole in an ironing board, causing the shop to become enveloped in smoke. Enumclawites were thrilled by the continual shrill whistle of the siren which had stuck and as it kept blowing local inhabitants thought the entire town must be burning down. A throng of people were drawn downtown to see the excitement.
