Baim pleads not guilty in Ravensdale murder case

Black Diamond resident Andrew Baim is accused of running over Nick Valison with his truck last September.

Black Diamond resident Andrew Baim has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Ravensdale resident Nick Valison earlier this fall.

Baim, 38, allegedly killed Valison by running him over with a stolen vehicle after Valison confronted him and two other individuals in his neighborhood about illegal dumping on Sept. 21, and torched the vehicle later.

He was charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count second-degree arson, and two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle on Nov. 15 when he was arrested.

Baim pled not guilty at his Nov. 30 arraignment; the judge sided with prosecutors and set his bail at $4 million.

Also potentially implicated in the murder of Valison is Bart McMurray and Alyssa Montano; according to prosecutors, both McMurray and Montano allegedly told police that they were there with Baim at the time, though McMurray added that he wasn’t in the car when Valison was killed.

McMurray was arrested Nov. 9 on separate stolen vehicle charges; no charges have been filed against Montano, but the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office has said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges might be filed in the future.

The Courier-Herald normally does not publish the names of individuals not officially charged with a crime, but other media reports revealed McMurray and Montano’s names.

Second-degree murder, a class A felony, could result in a life sentence for Baim, if convicted.

The trial is currently set for Jan. 8, but is expected to be rescheduled.
