Buckley will again be home to the MK5K and one-mile fun run, an event that directly benefits women’s causes.

The third annual event, staged by local volunteers on behalf of the Mary Kay Foundation, will see walkers and joggers covering the popular Foothills Trail the morning of May 14.

The event begins and ends in front of the Buckley Youth Center, 251 N. River Ave. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the one-mile fun run/walk departs at 9 and the 5K run/walk will begin at 9:30. There will be awards for the top overall male and female, as well as an award for the top finisher in the 5K, 40+ category.

Proceeds from the May 14 event will again benefit the Mary Kay Foundation, which has a two-fold mission: to support scientists working on causes for breast, uterine, cervical and ovarian cancers; and to provide grants that fund shelters for victims of domestic violence. The Family Renewal Shelter in Tacoma has been a grant recipient in past years and will be joining the Buckley event again this year.

During the past two decades, the foundation has provided more than $23.5 million to cancer research and $40.7 million in grants to women’s shelters and supporting organizations.

The entry fee is $5 for the one-mile event and $15 for the 5K. There’s also a $50 “premium pack” that includes an event T-shirt. Donations also can also be submitted to TMKF for the MK5K event.

Included will be raffles for various prizes donated by area merchants.

Registration can be done the morning of the event, but organizers encourage participants to sign up in advance at: https://runsignup.com/Register/?raceId=31996.
