Benevolent bakers beseeched for food bank bread bestowal

A regional non-profit just began a partnership with the Enumclaw Food Bank.

The Enumclaw Food Bank has recently teamed up with regional food charity Community Loaves, and they’re looking for local help from some serious cerealists to bake bread for people in knead.

The Puget Sound-based non-profit works with 33 different food banks across Washington, Idaho and Oregon and more than 900 volunteers, according to its website. It coordinates efforts by bakers to give away nutritious loaves of breads through food banks and pantries.

Bakers interested in donating their time and effort to the project can learn more at communityloaves.org. Prospective volunteers attend a brief information session and can then begin baking from a standard recipe for the program. They take their baked goods to a designated hub twice a month.

Barrie Thompson, the local hub coordinator for the Enumclaw area, said the Enumclaw food bank could use another half-dozen bakers in the area or so who can consistently make bread.

“I started thinking I wanted to be a baker, and quickly decided to, hopefully, bring the program to the area,” Thompson said.
