Berryland Cafe compiling rhubarb recipes for Rhubarb Festival cookbook

Do you know a rhubarb recipe that’s uniquely you? If you have a red stalk recipe of your own, the Berryland Cafe can give you the opportunity to share your secrets with the rest of Sumner.

Cafe owners Lola and Nolan Burslie are compiling a rhubarb cookbook in preparation for the summer Rhubarb Festival.

“We’re hoping for at least 500 recipes,” Lola said. “I’m hoping if we have 1,500, we’ll sell at least 1,500, because people will want to see their recipes in a cookbook.”

The book will be divided into sections based on all the uses for the vegetable, from jellies and jams to cookies, to breads, to crisps, to candies, to cakes, to drinks, to soups, salads and dressings.

The book is planned to be sold for $5 and may attract business sponsorship, which would allow for more copies to be printed, Lola said.

Recipes will be collected by the Sumner Downtown Association, 1101 Main Street, by June 1.
