Bonney Lake man arrested after human remains found at residence

The remains are believed to be those of his girlfriend whom he reported missing.

Bonney Lake police have arrested an Inlet Island man on suspicion of homicide after human remains were found in his residence Sunday Morning.

The remains are believed to belong to the man’s girlfriend, who has been identified as Mary Mushapaidzi, 42.

According to police, the man called police at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday to report his girlfriend missing. He told police she left to go jogging at 5:30 a.m. and never returned. Police said the man was acting suspicious during their discussions.

“We came out and spoke with him and decided we need to get the detectives involved,” Bonney Lake Sgt. Tom Longtine said Monday morning.

Bonney Lake detectives and members of the Metro Crime Response Team received a search warrant for the premises in the 4700 block of North Island Drive and located the remains inside.

According to police, the remains could not be identified because of their condition, but the search for the missing woman has been called off.

According to Longtine, the couple are originally from Zimbabwe. They have lived at the residence since July and lived in the city prior to that as well, but there have been no prior calls or investigations regarding the couple.

The couple have two children who were at the house at the time and have been placed into Child Protective Service custody.
