The Hometown Book Club planning committee has chosen “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford as its spring reading selection.
The community is invited to read the book then meet for discussion at 7 p.m. March 29 at the Enumclaw High School Library.
The author will join the discussion on Skype. Ford grew up near Seattle’s Chinatown where his novel takes place. Find out more about the author at his website www.jamieford.com.
According to book club leaders, the selection will appeal to a wide range of readers. It is a historical fiction that is brought to life by a modern relationship between father and son. Those people who may have first-hand knowledge of the Japanese-American internment, specifically as it related to Seattle and the Puyallup fairgrounds or history buffs will be especially interested in this book.
“Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” is available to borrow from the Enumclaw Public Library and students may borrow the book from the Enumclaw High School library. It is available for purchase in paperback at amazon.com or Barnes and Noble. If the book is purchased at amazon.com through the Enumclaw Schools Foundation website, a portion of the sales will benefit that organization.
