Breakfast features Hume as speaker

The Enumclaw Garden Club’s annual fundraiser for conservation projects, Breakfast for the Birds, is scheduled for Feb. 17 at the Enumclaw High School commons. Doors open at 9 a.m. to ticket holders. A breakfast catered by The Kettle Restaurant will be served at 10 a.m. The theme for this year’s breakfast is “Rockin’ and a Boppin’ With the Birds.”

Each year, breakfast participants don homemade hats, which are later judged by a panel of community members. The hat parade categories are: Bye Bye Blackbird (basic black a must), Rockin’ Robin (make a hat that moves), Lullaby of Birdland (pastels for the babies), Flamingo (island/Florida attire encouraged), Cuckoo’s Nest (outrageous and/or colorful) and Fly Like an Eagle (feel the freedom).

Each year, a guest speaker provides gardening information. This year’s guest will be Ed Hume. Hume is celebrating his 42nd year as a gardening personality. His weekly television show is the longest continuous-running gardening television show in North America and possibly in the world. He also has a weekly radio show and has written for various local, regional and national publications.

There is also a silent auction and raffle at the event.

Tickets are $15. For ticket information, call Lynette Knapp 360-802-0268 or Sue Smith 360-802-0751.
