“The Farwalker’s Quest,” written by an Greenwater author Joni Sensel, is among the finalists for the 2009 Cybils Awards. The Cybils are presented annually by a consortium of children’s literature bloggers to titles that combine the highest literary merit and “kid appeal.”

“The Farwalker’s Quest” is a finalist in the middle-grade fantasy and science fiction category. In this post-apocalyptic adventure, a young girl discovers an artifact from the past that sweeps her off on a dangerous journey to recover a lost treasure and find her true calling.

Only one other book by a Washington author was among the finalists: “North of Beautiful” by Seattle author Justina Chen Headley is a finalist in the young-adult fiction category.

More than 900 books were nominated by members of the public in nine categories. Seven titles were chosen as finalists in each category and announced Jan. 1.

The winning titles will be announced Feb. 14.

“The Farwalker’s Quest,” released a year ago, comes out in paperback in February and the next book, “Timekeeper’s Moon,” will be released in March.
