Enumclaw-born nonprofit has given over $1 million to cancer Warriors nationwide

What started six years ago in a small donated office in Enumclaw has grown into a national nonprofit movement supporting individuals in the fight of their lives. Cancer Cartel, founded by three local women determined to ease the financial burden of cancer, has now distributed over $1 million in direct support to cancer Warriors across the country.

From the very beginning, American Heritage has been a key part of that journey. They provided free office space to help launch the organization and have supported its mission every step of the way. Now, as American Heritage prepares to move into a new space, Cancer Cartel will be moving right along with them and continuing to proudly call Enumclaw home.

To celebrate this next chapter and make room for the move, Cancer Cartel is inviting the community to its Closet Cleanout Sale on Thursday, July 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., behind American Heritage (1731 Cole Street) with easy access from the Pursuit Distilling side of Railroad Avenue.

The event promises an evening of bubbles, music, and discounted designer fashion, featuring women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, and Cancer Cartel gear. Every piece has been generously donated, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to individuals battling the overwhelming cost of cancer.

“This event is more than a fundraiser. It is a celebration of local roots, community partnership, and the extraordinary good that can come from one small town with a big heart. Come sip, shop, and support,” co-founder and Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kerry Solmonsen said. “Fashion funds the fight, and Cancer Cartel isn’t going anywhere.

Teri Schwader, co-owner of American Heritage and sister to two of Cancer Cartel’s co-founders, reflected on the journey:

“Supporting Cancer Cartel has been an honor from the beginning,” Schwader said. “Watching my sisters and their best friend create something so powerful and knowing our office could play a role in their growth has been incredibly meaningful. We are proud to have been their first home and are excited to continue sharing space with them in our new location.”

While Cancer Cartel now serves cancer Warriors from coast to coast, its foundation, spirit, and daily operations remain deeply rooted in Enumclaw.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at www.cancercartel.org or at the door.
