All suspects in the police blotter are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
PROWL: Officers on July 2 took a phone report about the theft of more than $1,100 worth of golf clubs from a vehicle parked at the Bonney Lake Tavern lot. When the owner returned to his vehicle he noticed the passenger side door open, though he had locked the truck, and the clubs missing. Police are investigating.
‘BIG MAN’: Police on July 2 were dispatched to the Walmart for a report of a theft in progress. Dispatch provided a description of the individual and his vehicle as officers arrived at the store. As officers located the vehicle described, store security informed them the suspect transferred to a different car and was headed for state Route 410. Police stopped the vehicle and advised the driver to go back to Walmart where store security confirmed the passenger as the one seen stealing alcohol from the store. The suspect admitted to stealing a ping pong paddle set, but not the alcohol. Store security showed police and the suspect video of him placing two bottles of alcohol on his clothing and leaving the store. After seeing the video, the suspect admitted he took the alcohol and said no one in the car knew what he was doing. He said he was asked to bring a “bottle” to a party and wanted to be a “big man” who showed up with alcohol. The alcohol was recovered and the suspect was charged with one count of theft. Another passenger int he car was found to have outstanding warrants and was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on his warrants.
DOUBLE SHOPLIFTING: Police on July 7 were dispatched to the Albertson’s for a report of a shoplifter. According to store security, the suspect was seen going behind a counter in the store, taking two cans of tobacco and then leaving the store. When confronted, the man gave back the tobacco and cursed at store security before walking off again. Police saw a man meeting the suspect’s description near the entrance to Lowe’s and stopped him. He was carrying a Safeway bag with a large amount of merchandise inside. When police asked if the man had a receipt for the items he told police it was none of their business. He admitted to taking the two cans of tobacco and then said he did not want to talk anymore. The suspect was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on charges of theft. After dropping him off, police returned to the Safeway and watched security footage of the man taking the items found in his bag and leaving the store without paying. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor for possible additional charges.
MORE SHOPLIFTING: Officers on July 3 were dispatched to the Walmart for a shoplifter in custody. Dispatch informed police the suspect also had an outstanding Pierce County warrant in the amount of $3,500. The suspect was seen selecting a pair of items from the shelves and then immediately proceeding to the customer service desk where he produced a receipt and asked for his money back for the items. He was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on theft charges.
PROWL: Police on July 5 responded to the 4900 block of 197th Avenue East for a report of a vehicle prowl. A wallet was taken from a car left unlocked in the driveway. No other items were missing and there was no damage to the car. Police are investigating.
BURGLARY: Police on July 6 were called to the Jiffy Lube for a report of a burglary. Employees were in the process of opening the shop when they noticed an open door and shattered window. Police observed two rocks inside the store, apparently used to break the window. All of the property in the business seemed undisturbed, including a safe. Employees provided police with a possible suspect, a disgruntled employee who was recently fired. Police are investigating.
PROWLED: An officer on off-duty detail at Regal Cinema on July 6 was contacted by the victim of a car prowl. The victim came out from work to discover the window of his truck broken and his iPod Touch missing from the front seat. While speaking to the victim, a second person contacted the officer about his vehicle being prowled. The second victim also found a broken window and a missing iPod and iPhone. Police are investigating.
MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: Police on July 7 were dispatched to the 9500 block of 181st Avenue East for a report of malicious mischief. The reporting party told police he was keeping an eye on the house of a neighbor who was out of town and when he went by to pick up the newspaper he noticed several tires on two of the house’s vehicles had been punctured and deflated. Police contacted and notified the owner and are investigating.
ANOTHER PROWL: Officers were dispatched to the 6500 block of 188th Avenue East on July 7 for a report of a vehicle prowl. The victim told police that overnight an unknown suspect had rummaged through the vehicle and took $5 in cash and a small flashlight. The owner said the car had been locked and an alarm set, but he did not hear the alarm and does not know how the suspect may have avoided it. Police are investigating.
YET ANOTHER PROWL: Police on July 7 took a report from the victim of a car prowl that occurred the night before at Bonney Lake Tavern. The victim returned to his car to find the window smashed, but he did not think anything had been taken until the next day when he realized his briefcase containing a laptop and checkbook. Police are investigating.
DAMAGED: Officers on July 8 took a report from a woman who left a vehicle for sale in a lot in the 8400 block of Myers Road. The owner received a phone call from a potential buyer that the vehicle had been damaged and returned to the scene to discover the driver’s side window smashed with a rock and the area next to the door scraped. Police are investigating.
FRAUD: Officers on July 8 were dispatched to the lobby of the Public Safety Building for a fraud report. The victim reported that while checking his bank statement this morning he noticed a charge of $1,498.54 to a London business that he did not make. The man’s bank was notified and a report was taken.
DOPE(S): An officer patrolling Allan Yorke Park July 10 observed two subjects sitting on a log behind the skate park. As the officer approached the two juveniles, he could see one put a plastic bag in his pocket and observed the second holding a glass pipe containing unburnt marijuana. The officer walked both teens out of the woods and contacted their parents. The second teen’s parents were the first to arrive and the officer showed them the pipe found on their daughter and told them the case would be forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor and released her to their custody. When the first juvenile’s parents arrive, the officer showed them the bag of marijuana and again explained the case would be forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor before releasing the teen to their custody.
UNCOOPERATIVE SHOPLIFTER: Police were dispatched to the Walmart July 11 for a report of an uncooperative shoplifter in custody. The shoplifter was found to also have an outstanding Bonney Lake warrant. Store security observed the man place two bottle of cologne and a pair of work boots into his backpack and then attempt to leave the store. When security confronted the suspect, he was uncooperative and said “I’ll (expletive) knock you out, man.” The suspect told police he entered the store to use the bathroom, but decided to “get some stuff” once in the store. The total value of the items was more than $102. He was transported to Buckley Jail and cited for theft.
SHOPLIFTERS: Officers on July 11 were dispatched to the Walmart for a report of two males cutting the security device off of a cell phone in the store and then concealing it in a pocket. Police arrived and waited to see the suspects leave the store with the merchandise, but were advised by security that they were still in the store and appeared to be preparing to remove additional items from their packaging. Police contacted both suspects, who denied removing any merchandise from its package. One of the suspects was found to have an outstanding warrant. Store security told police they witnessed the incident and both suspects continued to deny any involvement until one finally admitted having the phone in his sock and said the second had no knowledge of the incident. The suspect who admitted to taking the phone was the one with warrants and was transported to Buckley jail and booked on a charge of second-degree attempted theft.
