Cedarview Kids Club offers weekly entertainment in the park

Kids and parents gathered on the grounds of Cedarview Park Tuesday July 20 to watch, of all things, a game show.

Children’s entertainers Patrick Slusher and Tom Gallo—known onstage as the Rowdy Referees-performed a 45 minute routine of wacky competitions in the Bonney Lake area park for a crowd of more than 200 people.

That number is actually on the small side of attendees in Bonney Lake’s Kids Club events, city Special Events Coordinator David Wells said.

The Rowdy Referees were the third act in a nine-week series of family entertainment put on by the city for Kids Club at Cedarview park. Acts perform for about 45 minutes every Tuesday at 11 a.m., entirely free to watch.

This is the third year of the Kids Club program, begun in 2008 shortly after the city acquired Cedarview Park from the Homeowners’ Association. The Kids Club has been sponsored by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe for two years.

“We noticed a group of parents coming to the park with their kids every Tuesday morning,” Wells said. “We decided to put on a little entertainment for them.”

The first two weeks featured Recess Monkey, a band formed by elementary school teachers, and Jeff Evans, a magician.

Upcoming events include a children’s theater performance by Last Leaf Theatre, Cap’n Arr and Reptile Man.
